Arsenal ‘FORCED’ into major Eze decision ahead of Friday deadline
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta may have to take unwelcome action before signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed on Thursday that the Gunners are still well positioned to sign Eze and that an initial downpayment over the winger’s transfer fee has been agreed with their London neighbours.
Arsenal will go all-in on the England star, but TalkSport reports that may involve shedding some players from Arteta’s squad before progressing with the move.
Eze has a release clause in his deal with Palace that expires at 11:59pm on Friday. The Gunners do not see this transfer as time sensitive, though. They had not considered paying Eze’s release fee of €69 million (£60m) and have instead been exploring other avenues to push this deal through.
Sources have indicated to FootballTransfers that Arsenal are confident a deal will be struck and that personal terms will not be a problem.
But Arteta’s side have been warned that they may need to sell before they can buy, even if they hope they will be able to negotiate a package in the €63.5m (£55m) range.
Eze, who the Gunners are signing to act primarily as a No.10, has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €55m.
Who could Arsenal sell?
There is no obvious player for Arsenal to offload, with TalkSport claiming that the Emirates side have told Saudi Pro League outfits that Gabriel Martinelli is not for sale.
Leandro Trossard would be the other obvious candidate to offload, given the number of players capable of featuring in a wide attacking role. Arteta has performed a U-turn in his thinking regarding the Belgian and is now willing to retain him, but with Borussia Dortmund interested and the possibility of Eze arriving as a replacement, another change of heart is possible.
