Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Man Utd GET SERIOUS, Arsenal BID, Simons HOLD UP
Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered updates on some of today’s biggest stories, including Eberechi Eze, Xavi Simons and Benjamin Sesko.
Spurs close in on Palhinha
Romano says that Tottenham will soon sign the player that Thomas Frank was chasing.
“It’s going to be Joao Palhinha, the Portuguese midfielder who returns to the Premier League after doing a fantastic job at Fulham. He joined Bayern and was unable to find space, and now he’s back in London, back in the Premier League and he’s going to play for Tottenham. It’s a here we go,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“Palhinha said yes to Spurs after speaking directly to the coach, Thomas Frank, who is really excited about the opportunity to have a player like him, who can provide experience, quality and intensity. He’s exactly the type of player he wanted.
“It’s going to be a loan deal with an option to buy clause worth €30m included. It’s not mandatory.
“Tottenham will cover the full salary of the player until the end of the season. Then, they’ll speak to Bayern again. If Spurs want to keep the player, they’ll pay €30m. Otherwise, he goes back to Bayern. It’s a very smart deal.”
’Story over’ for Eze clause
Romano has confirmed FootballTransfers’ exclusive from Thursday that Arsenal are well placed to sign Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze, despite the player’s release clause being set to expire.
He explains: “In the next 24 hours, the release clause of Eberechi Eze will expire. So Arsenal can’t go on to pay the clause and get the player. It will take a negotiation.
“Sources at Crystal Palace expect Arsenal to arrive for Eberechi Eze. Why? Because Arsenal have been in touch with his agents for months. Eze is very appreciated at Arsenal and Arsenal still want to add a player if they get the chance.
“They’ve already spoken to Eze several times and he’s keen on the move. So Palace expect an offer from Arsenal to arrive. Let’s see how the conversation goes.
“The story will be over for the clause but not for Arsenal.”
Donnarumma to Man Utd: The truth
PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could face fresh competition at Parc des Princes next season, with Romano rubbishing rumours that the Italian is close to leaving as things stand.
“What I’m told today is that there are no negotiations between Man Utd and Donnarumma. If that changes, I’ll let you know because we know Man Utd are looking at a goalkeeper,” Romano explained.
“The Donnarumma situation at PSG is special. They’re working on a deal to sign Lucas Chevalier from Lille – the negotiations are very advanced. So if he signs, it could be an interesting situation. From what I’m hearing, there’s a concrete possibility for Donnarumma to stay and compete with Chevalier.
“There are no contacts ongoing with Donnarumma at the moment, from Man Utd, Chelsea or any other rumour.”
Important Xavi Simons update
Chelsea’s move for Xavi Simons has gone a little quiet lately, but Romano has told Blues fans not to worry about the deal being done. Other business has to be done first, however.
“The first step for Chelsea is to sell some players. Marc Guiu will go to Sunderland on loan. Armando Broja will go. Then there are many more players who will leave up front. Raheem Sterling, for example. Joao Felix has already left. Nico Jackson is one to watch for sure. Christopher Nkunku will leave,” Romano says.
“They want Xavi Simons. They get into advanced talks with him at a very high level. Before closing the deal, they want to make sure they can complete some outgoings. But it’s not something in real danger at this stage.
“At Leipzig, the price tag is also going to be very important because the negotiations are advanced. But Leipzig are asking for important money and Chelsea want to spend less. The Bundesliga club know he’s got two years left on his contract and is never going to extend.
“The conversation remains advanced and the deal is still on.”
Important days for Sesko
Romano has outlined the latest on the Benjamin Sesko transfer saga, which still has a fair way to run.
“Man Utd have made direct contact with RB Leipzig to inform them they are prepared to bid for Benjamin Sesko, but only if they have encouragement from the player, who says: ‘OK, I want to join you,’” Romano says.
“Newcastle are ready to match whatever is needed with Leipzig and the player. Man Utd are ready to bid, which is different. But this move from Man Utd is part of the strategy to show the player they are serious and that they are ready for business and can really do it.
“Now the story enters an important stage. It’s going to be on Sesko to decide what he wants to do: Newcastle or Man Utd. So he’ll talk with his agent and family about his future. Sesko will now seriously start deciding what he wants to do.”
Zabarnyi finally nears PSG move
Bournemouth are set to complete another major summer deal after selling Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.
“We’re very close to a here was go with Ilya Zabarnyi to PSG. There’s an agreement on a five-year contract. Everything’s ready,” Romano explains.
“The agreement between PSG and Bournemouth is really close. They spoke on Thursday afternoon and had very positive contact. It’s only small details missing now, like €1-1.5m. As soon as this is clarified, Zabarnyi will travel, have his medical and become a new PSG player.
“Then Bournemouth will go for an important defender. They’re considering several names, including Koni De Winter at Genoa.”
One to watch
Romano says that although Everton had an offer rejected for Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, the Toffees are set to make another bid for a player Saints have valued at €120m.
“Everton are preparing a new proposal for Tyler Dibling. There are many clubs interested but Everton want to make him one of the faces of their ambitious project. Keep an eye on this one because it could be interesting,” he says.
