Jose Mourinho has played down rumours that Vinicius Junior may be sold next year by admitting that he “loves” the Brazil international.

Vinicius, 26, was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer and it’s understood that he remains on the Gunners’ transfer radar amid their well-documented pursuit of a new superstar left winger.

Mikel Arteta’s side bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Christos Tzolis in July, but they are still eager to improve their forward options and Vini Jr has been earmarked as one of their top targets for 2027, alongside Juventus star Kenan Yildiz.

However, Mourinho has now hinted that he won’t permit a sale, despite the fact that summer signing Yan Diomande has excelled as a left winger in Vinicius’ absence through suspension.

“I can’t wait for Vini Jr to be back from the sanction because I love him, I need him,” Mourinho told reporters (via Fabrizio Romano) ahead of Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Racing Santander on Sunday.

Diomande scored his fourth goal in his last six games from a left-wing berth during the victory, and rumours have recently suggested that Los Blancos may consider selling Vini Jr next year due to the Ivorian’s recent form.

However, such talk appears to have been shut down by Mourinho, who wants the club to retain the Brazil superstar despite his subpar form so far this season and strong interest from Arsenal.

Will Vinicius Jr join Arsenal?

Vinicius rejected the chance to join Arsenal in favour of signing a lucrative new contract at Real Madrid and it’s unlikely that his stance on an Emirates Stadium switch has already changed within the space of a few short months.

However, his guaranteed place in the Real Madrid starting XI is under immense threat thanks to Diomande’s recent performances and an exit could feasibly be pursued if he is unable to work his way back into favour following his return from suspension.

If a deal is to be finalised, though, Arsenal will likely be required to make Vinicius the most expensive Premier League player in history, usurping Alexander Isak and Enzo Fernandez (both €145 million).
