Tottenham agree deal to sign Mohammed Kudus - David Ornstein
Tottenham have reached a 'full agreement' with West Ham to sign Mohammed Kudus, according to David Ornstein.
The Europa League winners appear to be closing in on their first real marquee signing of the summer after making the loans of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso permanent and completing the arrival of Kota Takai.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Tottenham have struck a deal with West Ham to sign forward Mohammed Kudus after more than a week of talks. New head coach Thomas Frank approved of the deal early on, and he is now set to get his man.
Tottenham had an initial bid of around €58 million turned down by West Ham last week, but they have now managed to find common ground for a fee believed to be in the region of €64m.
Kudus has been prioritising talks with Spurs, and Ornstein reports that personal terms are not expected to be an issue. The Ghana international is very keen to play Champions League football next season.
Spurs agree Kudus deal
By agreeing a €64m deal for Kudus, Spurs appear to have managed a real coup as Kudus had a release clause for Premier League clubs in the region of €98m-€100m.
It was always unrealistic to expect suitors to pay that much, but €64m appears to be great value for money for a player who showed immense promise in his first season at West Ham. His second campaign, however, was much less successful.
Kudus also had admirers elsewhere, but quite quickly, he made it clear that he had his heart set on a move to North London. Chelsea, for example, had been credited with an interest in the versatile forward.
The 24-year-old is now set to undergo a medical at Spurs on Thursday and will then formally complete his move. He managed to score 19 goals and provide 13 assists in 80 appearances for West Ham.
