Man Utd facing difficulties with ‘bomb squad’

Manchester United could be forced to consider offers for other members of their first team after struggling to generate interest in their ‘bomb squad’ so far.

United have allowed Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia to train separately from the first team in order to prioritise finding moves away from the club this summer.

The five have been told they cannot access the Carrington training ground until after the first team have left for the day, with no prospect of them being reintegrated into Ruben Amorim’s squad.

However, teams are aware of United’s stance and, as such, are likely to wait until closer to deadline day to move for any players, leaving Amorim forced to consider alternatives, according to the BBC.

A midfielder such as Mason Mount, Casemiro or Kobbie Mainoo could be sold for the right offer in order to give United more resources to spend this summer, with the ‘bomb squad’ not expected to resolve their futures until later in the window.

Antony returns to Man Utd for showdown talks

Rashford is believed to have opted against the extended break he was offered and reported for his own individual training last week in the hopes of keeping fit to find a new club quickly.

And Antony has become the next player to reportedly cut short his holidays to return to training, with abc de Sevilla reporting that the Brazilian has arrived in Manchester to discuss his future with the club,

The forward is keen to return to Betis after his successful loan there last season but negotiations have not ‘been easy’ according to the report.

United are looking to permanently sell Antony this summer but Betis have so far only been able to offer a loan move with an obligation to buy – a proposal which will require further negotiations as talks drag on over the 25-year-old’s future.

Ten Hag felt Carreras ‘was too slow for Premier League’

United have seen some funds generated this summer through sell-on clauses, with former players Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras and Maxi Oyedele all moving clubs for substantial fees.

The trios transfers will net United around £13 million (€15m), with Carreras the latest player to change teams after leaving Benfica for Real Madrid this month.

The former United academy player left Old Trafford in January last year for €6m and has already moved again for €50m, leading to some frustrations over letting Carreras leave in the first place given the struggles at left-back at the time.

BBC reporter Simon Stone revealed that former manager Erik ten Hag felt Carreras was ‘not quick enough for the Premier League’ and was only suited to a back three, leading to his loan moves away and eventual departure for a cut-price fee.

Mbeumo latest

United are hoping to wrap up the signing of Bryan Mbeumo before they fly off to their pre-season tour of the USA next Tuesday.

FootballTransfers has been told that a deal has been agreed with Brentford for Mbeumo, although The Athletic believe a there is still a ‘considerable gap’ between the two clubs’ valuation so far.

A deal is not thought to be ‘imminent’ although talks are expected to continue, with Mbeumo desperate to secure a move to his top choice of club.

While no significant developments are said to have been made recently, United could look to ramp up discussions in the coming days to ensure Mbeumo is available for their pre-season tour.

Man Utd interested in Jackson transfer

Manchester United are among the clubs keeping tabs on Nicolas Jackson amid rumours that he could leave Chelsea this summer.

The Senegal international has been Chelsea’s starting striker since his arrival from Villarreal in 2023, but he has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
