Jonathan David was reportedly “shocked” by the lack of interest in his services from top Premier League clubs this summer.

The Canada international completed a Bosman move to Juventus on Friday, following the expiration of his Lille contract, and he has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A giants.

However, he was initially interested in securing a move to the English top flight and he reportedly believed that a move could be on the cards due to the fact he was available on a free transfer.

David scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions last season, but clubs in the Premier League, including Manchester United, eventually opted against pursuing a deal, despite significant transfer rumours.

That decision came as a surprise to David’s camp, according to Graeme Bailey.

The transfer reporter told United in Focus: “I get a lot of fans asking me about Jonathan David, and a lot of them are Manchester United fans.

“I have chased this with his people, and I can confirm they have been shocked by the lack of significant talks with most Premier League clubs, including United.”

In addition to Man Utd, David was also linked with a move to Arsenal before joining Juventus, although Mikel Arteta’s side opted to pursue Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko instead.

They have now reached an agreement on personal terms with the former, and a move is expected to be finalised shortly amid advanced negotiations with Sporting CP.

Man Utd want a new striker

After deciding against purchasing David, Man Utd are now monitoring a number of different centre forward options, including Victor Osimhen and Moise Kean.

Despite this, they are currently focused on signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo and they have halted their pursuit of a new centre forward for the time being.

However, Rasmus Hojlund continues to be linked with an Old Trafford exit, so a new striker is still expected to arrive at the club before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
