Legend 'extremely worried' about Christian Eriksen amid Wrexham talks
Christian Eriksen's inability to find a new club after his departure from Manchester United has left Denmark legend Thomas Gravesen 'extremely worried.'
The 33-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent following his release by Man Utd after three mixed years at Old Trafford. Although Eriksen won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup with the Red Devils, his influence waned as the club slumped to their worst Premier League finishes in 2024 and 2025.
In recent transfer windows, Eriksen had no shortage of suitors, but he always opted to remain in Manchester as he didn't want to relocate his family. However, now that he is freely available, clubs don't exactly appear to be queuing up to sign him.
To be sure, there are perennial links with his former club Ajax, while his boyhood side Odense have confirmed that tentative talks have taken place. There have also been links with Mallorca and, >most prominently, promoted Championship side Wrexham.
Eriksen is said to be keen to remain in a top European league, but the fact that he still hasn't found a new employer at a time when the 2025/26 season is already starting up again in many countries is causing concern in his native Denmark.
Could Eriksen retire from football?
Denmark legend Thomas Gravesen says that he is 'extremely worried' about the veteran midfielder and fears that he could suffer the same fate as ex-teammate Simon Kjaer, who retired after searching in vain for a new club for six months.
“I am extremely worried," Gravesen told Viaplay. "What is a huge factor for me is that nothing is coming for Christian Eriksen. A player of his age and with his qualities… where are those clubs?
"Why hasn’t he signed with a club yet? We all know how extremely important it is to be in shape… Why isn’t Christian Eriksen in it, why isn’t he participating on a level with the other players? Has he lost his joy? I am extremely worried.
“I’m sitting here crossing everything that can be crossed that he has not reached the end of the road. But the scenario we are facing is similar to Simon Kjaer’s.
"Half a year passed where we did not hear anything from Simon Kjaer, and suddenly he was finished. For me, it is too early for this when it comes to Christian Eriksen."
