Chelsea are reportedly ready to meet Bournemouth’s demands to sign Alex Scott during the upcoming January transfer window.

The England international was earmarked as a top target by Xabi Alonso’s side over the summer, however they were unable to tempt Bournemouth into a sale and they were ultimately left empty-handed amid their pursuit of a suitable replacement for Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea’s attempts to sign Lamine Camara and Manu Kone both failed on Transfer Deadline Day and they ended their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon with a midfield pairing of Reece James and Malo Gusto, with first-choice option Moises Caicedo currently sidelined through injury.

The Blues are expected to pursue a new midfielder in 2027 and rumours have suggested there is no guarantee they will rekindle their interest in Camara due to their “broken relationship” with AS Monaco officials.

Instead, the west London giants are expected to seek a deal for Scott, who is understood to be open to the prospect of securing a Stamford Bridge switch next year.

Bournemouth were reluctant to offload the x-year-old this summer, however it’s believed they may be more amenable to a sale during the winter transfer window and TEAMtalk now claim that Chelsea are ready to meet the Cherries’ demands.

It’s reported that Alonso’s side have made “fresh moves” to secure a deal for Scott in January, with the club now in a strong position to finalise a deal when the winter window officially opens.

Scott, who could cost as much as €100 million, would “welcome” the opportunity to join the two-time Champions League winners and while Bournemouth will demand a hefty fee to sanction a mid-season sale, TEAMtalk state that Chelsea are willing to meet their asking price.

Analysis: Will Alex Scott start for Chelsea?

While Scott is Chelsea’s primary midfield target, there are concerns over whether he would immediately become a guaranteed starter at Stamford Bridge, with Caicedo a nailed-on inclusion in Alonso’s best team when fit, and the Blues boss understood to be a huge fan of playing James in the middle of the park.

However, Scott has excelled for Bournemouth over the past 12 months and he would certainly become an integral player for Chelsea if they are able to finalise a deal when the January window opens, regardless of whether he becomes an instant starter.

The Englishman has started the 2026-27 campaign in fine form and he is expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s upcoming squad for Nations League fixtures versus Spain, Czech Republic (x2) and Croatia.
