CONFIRMED: Ryan Reynolds targets Christian Eriksen in stunning Wrexham swoop
Wrexham are in talks to sign former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, his agent has confirmed.
The Denmark international is currently a free agent after being released by the Red Devils at the end of last season. Eriksen had spent three years at Old Trafford, but Man Utd ultimately opted against extending his contract.
The 33-year-old is not yet ready to retire and is looking for a new club. There have been links with a return to Ajax, while Anderlecht previously tried to sign him. Eriksen himself has publicly ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia.
Now, a spectacular new option has emerged. According to the Daily Mail, and since confirmed by Sky Sports and his agent, promoted Championship side Wrexham have held talks with the midfielder over a move.
The pet project of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who changed his name to Rob Mac last month, have achieved three consecutive promotions and are now gearing up for their first season in the second tier since 1980.
Agent confirms Eriksen talks
Thanks to their American funding, Wrexham have been able to rise up the leagues and pull off ambitious signings. The arrival of Eriksen would certainly be their biggest transfer yet.
The veteran's agent Martin Schoots has confirmed that talks have taken place. However, it is thought that Wrexham will only become a serious consideration for the Dane if no attractive top-division offers materialise.
"Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like [CEO] Michael Williamson there," Schoots told the Mail.
"But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition, and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on, but it has to suit both sides."
