Manchester United will benefit handsomely from Alvaro Carreras' imminent move from Benfica to Real Madrid.

The Spanish full-back is set to finally get his dream transfer after weeks of negotiations. Real Madrid had tried to sign Carreras in the initial Club World Cup window, but talks with Benfica dragged on past the deadline.

The 22-year-old ultimately lined up for the Portuguese giants rather than Los Blancos at the tournament in the US, but talks continued behind the scenes, with Real Madrid regarding him as their top left-back target.

In recent days, Real Madrid made a breakthrough in the talks with Benfica and, according to Fabrizio Romano, a move is now only a matter of time. Carreras will return to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he previously played in the academy, while Rafael Obrador will head the other way.

Real Madrid will reportedly pay €50 million to sign Carreras. However, Benfica are not the only side that will financially benefit from the youngster's move.

Man Utd set for Carreras windfall

Carreras' former club Man Utd will also receive a sizeable chunk of the transfer as they had the foresight to include a sell-on clause when they sold him to Benfica.

The Spaniard joined Man Utd from Real Madrid's youth setup in 2020 and permanently moved to Benfica last summer after an initial loan. Carreras also spent time out on loan at Preston and Granda during his four years on the books at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd will receive 20 per cent of any fee above €5.8m, which means that in the case of Carreras' €50m move to Real Madrid, they will pocket a handsome €10m.

It comes mere days after Man Utd learned that they will receive over €5m from Anthony Elanga's move to Newcastle, with the Magpies having agreed a €64m deal with Nottingham Forest.
