Fabrizio Romano transfer news: Isak to Liverpool BOMBSHELL, new Gyokeres DEMAND, Ekitike OFFER
Football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest news from the 2025 summer window, with updates on Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike.
Ekitike and Isak bombshell
Fabrizio Romano has delivered a bombshell update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak, with the Reds lodging a formal approach as they bid to sign the Newcastle United forward.
However, things are far from straightforward and Hugo Ekitike is set to play a role in any possible transfer.
“On Monday, Newcastle presented an official bid to Eintracht Frankfurt worth more than €70m for Hugo Ekitike,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “Negotiations are ongoing club-to-club and on the player’s side.
“Then, in the recent hours, Liverpool called to be informed on the situation of Ekitike. They have always had an interest in the player and he remains one of the options they have on the list.
“But, Ekitike will only be a Liverpool target if they can’t get Alexander Isak. At this stage, Liverpool are still trying to make something crazy and special happen for Isak.”
Romano added: “It’s really difficult as Newcastle have always wanted to keep the player. They believe they can offer him an important new deal with an important salary in the upcoming weeks. They are trying everything possible to keep him at the club.
“But, Liverpool want to try. He’s always been the dream target and what I’m told is that Liverpool have made a direct approach to Newcastle to inform them of their intention to open negotiations for a club record fee for Isak.
“If Newcastle get Ekitike, Liverpool really want to try for Isak. That’s the mission. It’s now on Newcastle - they can decide if they want to sell or reject.”
Diaz offer rejected
Meanwhile, Liverpool have turned down Bayern Munich’s opening offer for Colombia winger Luis Diaz.
“Today, Bayern presented a new official bid for Luis Diaz - €67.5m. Liverpool immediately rejected this as this kind of money is not enough to convince Liverpool to sell Diaz,” Romano said.
“Don't forget Barcelona because Barcelona remain in contact with the agents of Diaz, but at the moment the deal is very expensive, so it’s not easy at all for Barcelona.
“It’s not easy for Bayern. Both clubs remain in contact with the agents of the player and they will have more rounds of talks, but now Bayern are going very big.
“The official bid has been rejected, but Bayern want to attack and try again for Diaz. They are not leaving the conversation as they believe Diaz can be a perfect signing.
“But again, Liverpool are rejecting this money because they believe Diaz is worth more than this with two years left on his contract.
“Don't forget the position of the player because the understanding is that Diaz is keen and open on leaving Liverpool in this summer transfer window. That's something that he always had in his mind.”
Nunez update
Although Liverpool want to keep Diaz, they are determined to offload Darwin Nunez before the new campaign kicks off.
Romano revealed: “In February and March, I was telling you that I expect Darwin Nunez to go and I still expect Darwin Nunez to go with Saudi Pro League clubs also pushing.
“He's been waiting for Napoli for weeks, but he can't wait forever, and so it will now depend on Napoli. They're also negotiating for Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese, but Darwin can't wait forever and there is strong interest from Saudi Arabia.”
Gyokeres demand
Finally, Romano provided a shock update regarding Viktor Gyokeres, with Sporting CP eager to receive an €80m fee from Arsenal.
“Viktor Gyokeres remains a topic to watch in these hours because the agents of the player are still in London,” Romano admitted. “Last night, we had reports of the deal on the verge of collapsing.
“From what I'm told, the conversation is still ongoing between all parties involved to sort the final point - the add-ons.
“The agent did everything possible because he's going to reduce the commission. Arsenal are also doing their best by paying more than what they expected. They initially expected to pay €60m, plus €10m in add-ons. They are now at €63.5m, plus €10m in add-ons.
“Now, Sporting want even more. Sporting want the €10m in add-ons to be very easy, almost guaranteed. While Arsenal want part of it to be quite easy and part of it to be quite difficult.”
Romano continued: “So the conversation is continuing. The player keeps giving absolute priority to Arsenal and his five-year contract with Arsenal is ready.
“Let's see guys because the negotiations are taking place every minute in London during these hours, so any minute can be crucial. Let's see how long it will take to find the final solution.
“For sure the situation is tense after Sporting is always requesting for more and more and more in this story: from the agent, from the player, from Arsenal. But Arsenal are still there. At the moment, nothing has collapsed.”
