Rodrygo back on the menu as KEY Arsenal domino about to fall
Arsenal's pursuit of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo could be revived in light of the growing interest from Borussia Dortmund and Premier League clubs in Leandro Trossard.
The Gunners held talks with Rodrygo's camp earlier this summer to sound out the possibility of a blockbuster transfer. The Brazilian is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid, who have frankly told him that they will listen to offers for him this summer.
Rodrygo has seen his game time diminish drastically in recent months, and the situation appears to only be getting worse under Xabi Alonso. Despite this, the 24-year-old has yet to make a final decision on his future.
This frustrated Arsenal, and they ultimately moved on to other deals, with the priority, of course, being the now-completed signing of Viktor Gyokeres.
Talks have also been held with Eberechi Eze as an alternative to Rodrygo for the left wing, although the interest in him is not completely linked to the Real Madrid star; Arsenal had initially wanted to sign both as Eze is actually more comfortable centrally.
Rodrygo to be revisited?
In recent weeks, the links with Rodrygo have died down, but Mikel Arteta remains an admirer. Indeed, there still appears to be latent interest, with the The Athletic stating that there could be a chance of the Gunners revisiting this deal.
However, this is thought to be contingent on outgoings, with one of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard having to depart beforehand. FootballTransfers understands that Arteta is keen to keep both, but the interest in Trossard appears to be growing.
Sky Germany reports that 'a move is possible' as Trossard is fielding interest from Borussia Dortmund and two unnamed Premier League clubs, who are said to have already made 'concrete offers.'
As things stand, a move to Dortmund looks unlikely as they want to rediscover the 'Dortmund Way' of primarily snapping up young talent. Similarly, the interest in Man Utd outcast Jadon Sancho is nowhere near as advanced yet as some are making it out to be.
Should Trossard indeed decide to depart Arsenal, be it for the Bundesliga or elsewhere in the Premier League, it could give the Gunners an incentive to reignite their pursuit of Rodrygo.
