Bournemouth have outlined their January transfer stance on Chelsea target Alex Scott.

The England star has established himself as one of the Premier League's best central midfielders in recent seasons and is understood to be keen to take the next step in his career.

Scott was open to a move in the summer, but Bournemouth refused to play ball. Having lost manager Andoni Iraola and defensive stalwart Marcos Senesi, the Cherries decided to fight tooth and nail to keep their remaining key personnel ahead of their first season in the Europa League.

Bournemouth rebuffed all approaches for Scott, who fielded interest from various Premier League heavyweights. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool are all believed to have enquired about the 23-year-old, only to be met with unwavering resistance from his club.

The South Coast outfit have been trying to tie Scott down to a new contract since at least the spring, and they are even prepared to offer him a release clause, but progress has been minimal on that front. A transfer in 2027 looks to be the direction of travel.

Could Chelsea sign Scott in January?

Chelsea were among the clubs showing the keenest interest in Scott in the summer as they needed a replacement for Man City-bound Enzo Fernandez. They were prepared to pay Bournemouth more than €60 million, but it proved a non-starter.

With a deal for Lamine Camara having collapsed in the dying moments of Deadline Day, the Blues remain determined to add a high-profile midfielder heading into 2027. They may even be forced into action as early as January.

However, according to Dean Jones, Bournemouth will not entertain a mid-season departure of Scott. They have no intention of losing their star midfielder in the midst of a European campaign.

Their firm not-for-sale stance will remain unchanged until at least the end of the season. Jones adds that the Cherries internally value Scott at around €110 million on the open market.

In that context, it may actually be in the best interest of his suitors that he agrees to a new contract because it was previously reported that the release clause Bournemouth were offering him was lower than €100m.

Regardless of this stance, Chelsea remain extremely interested in Scott and could even hold talks over a possible pre-agreement to avoid being beaten to the punch by another club, Jones suggests.
