Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has given the latest on a string of major deals, including Rodrygo to Arsenal and Rayan Cherki to Manchester City.

Article continues under the video

Man City’s next signing

Romano has confirmed that Manchester City have three major deals lined up.

On his YouTube channel, he said: “Rayan Ait Nouri, the Wolves left-back is joining Manchester City for a transfer fee of around €40 million. He’s signed a five-year deal and everything is agreed with the player. There are medical tests on Saturday. He’ll be the next signing for Man City after Tijjani Reijnders. He’ll have his medical on Sunday.

“After them, in the next days, it’ll be time to focus on Rayan Cherki. He’s ready to be the next one at Man City. The agreement is done between the player and City, now negotiations are underway with Lyon. The price will be higher than €30m. But the expectation is that he’ll be a new City player soon.

“He’s a player wanted by several clubs in Germany, England and Italy.”

Barcelona face goalkeeping headache

Another club active in the window is Barcelona, with the Blaugrana set for a problem of their own making, Romano says.

“Barcelona’s next signing will be Joan Garcia. They’ll pay the release clause next week, €25m to Espanyol. It’s a five-year deal,” he revealed.

“So what’s happening now? The understanding is that Barca will have Joan Garcia to be in their squad next season. The idea is not for him to go on loan but instead be part of the first-team squad.

“Now Barcelona have four important goalkeepers. Inaki Pena will leave and for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, they will need to find a solution. Ter Stegen is insisting on staying at Barcelona. So a decision is needed.”

Franco Mastantuono: Real Madrid closing in

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are on the verge of signing Franco Mastantuono from River Plate in a hijack from PSG.

Romano says: “Franco Mastantuono has been in concrete talks with PSG for a long time and they had been optimistic about signing him. But they never closed the deal. No agreement was made.

“Two days ago, Real Madrid called and travelled to Argentina and they have an agreement done with the player. He’ll sign until 2031. Mastantuono has said yes to Real Madrid and wants to go there.

“Xabi Alonso called Mastantuono and spent 40 minutes speaking to him, explaining the project and tactical view. The agreement with the player is done, now they’re working club-to-club for a deal after the Club World Cup.

“Real Madrid will not pay the release clause, they’re working around that, so negotiations are underway.”

Will Arsenal sign Rodrygo?

Rumours suggest that Arsenal are ready to move for Rodrygo, but how likely is a move? Romano is sitting on the fence for now.

“Rodrygo is a player appreciated by Arsenal, there’s no doubt about that. For sure, they’ll sign an important winger to the squad. And Rodrygo is a player they like internally. But at the moment, Real Madrid are yet to receive any official approach. At the moment, Arsenal’s appreciation is internal. Let’s see what they decide to do,” he said.

“It’ll likely depend on their budget. Who’s going to be their striker, Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres, and how much will they need to spend? How much is the transfer fee? How much is his salary?

“But Rodrygo is a player they like. And then they have to understand what the player wants to do.”

Osimhen latest

The situation of Victor Osimhen is proving difficult to resolve, with the Nigeria striker having so far failed to agree terms with Al-Hilal after a big bid from the Saudi side.

Galatasaray are hoping to take advantage.

Romano reports: “Al-Hilal have a new coach, Simeone Inzaghi, and made an official approach. They presented a €70m proposal to Napoli - €65m+€5m – but there is no agreement with Osimhen.

“There’s also Galatasaray. Osimhen did fantastic with them. The relationship between the fans and the player was fantastic. Now they’re trying to break the bank to sign Osimhen. They’re trying to find a solution with the player.

“He’s still not giving the green light from Al-Hilal. They could move on to other targets and the deal will collapse. At the moment, it’s complicated.

“There’s not been an official proposal from Premier League clubs this summer.”
