Arsenal had been expected to sell Gabriel Jesus this summer, but FootballTransfers can reveal the latest surprising news on the Brazil star’s future as the transfer window takes a shock twist in North London.

Article continues under the video

Gabriel Jesus had fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates as he struggled for form in front of goal last term before suffering a serious knee injury that he is still in the process of recovering from.

While this was always a likely impediment to a summer sale, not only are Arsenal planning with the 28-year-old striker for next season, the Gunners are also planning on offering him a contract extension, sources close to the club have informed FootballTransfers.

Why Arteta plans to keep Gabriel Jesus

Mikel Arteta has no intention of selling Gabriel Jesus, who is out of contract in 2027, either in the summer or during the January transfer window. Indeed, there have already been discussions about a possible one-year extension for the former Manchester City man.

The Arsenal manager’s thinking is that Jesus is unlike any other player he has at the club, and he wants to get the player fit as soon as possible for the upcoming season.

Selling Jesus only to sign a like-for-like replacement does not make sense in Arteta’s eyes. The Spaniard believes that Arsenal would struggle to get value for money in any deal for Jesus and any replacement with similar talent and Premier League experience would be more expensive to sign.

On top of this, Jesus is a popular figure in the Arsenal locker room and his family is well settled in London. The player is focused on winning trophies with the Gunners and isn’t pushing for a move.

Arteta and Gabriel Jesus are close due to their time together at Man City, and if either party changes their mind over a deal, that decision will be respected by the other.
