After finishing second in the Premier League behind Liverpool, the Gunners have prioritised a move for a striker, according to the acclaimed journalist, who adds that the North London side area also eager to sign a left-sided winger.

Arsenal continue to be closely linked with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres in the No.9 role, with the current indications being that the former is the likelier option for Arteta at present. Both players have been tracked for well over a year.

What’s happening with Nico Williams?

Ornstein dropped an important update that has implications for Arsenal’s interest in both Nico Williams and Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who is another player they have been closely linked with.

He claims that there are few players rated as highly in Arsenal’s thinking as the Spain international star, who has a €58m release clause with Athletic Club. But while this is an attractive price for the player, it needs to be paid in one lump sum, which could be problematic.

Another ongoing issue with Nico Williams are his wage demands. He possesses a high salary now and there is an expectation of him receiving an even higher salary if he was to broker a move. This may not fit into the Gunners’ wage structure.

Athletic are in negotiations with the 22-year-old over a new contract. Given the player has shown a reticence to leave the club in the past, notably turning down Barcelona last year, there is no guarantee that he will depart this summer, Ornstein warns.

Rodrygo of Real Madrid is seen as an alternative for Arsenal, yet he is likely to be a far more expensive option, with Los Blancos expecting a transfer fee in excess of €100m for the Champions League winner.
