Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner is on the verge of completing a six-month loan move to Tottenham Hotspur, with Ange Postecoglou’s side beating Manchester United to his signature.

The Germany international has struggled for game time at RB Leipzig this season following the summer arrivals of Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons (loan).

As a result, the Bundesliga side were willing to let him leave in January and Werner has agreed to join Tottenham on loan until the end of the 2023-24 campaign. Furthermore, Spurs also have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer if they wish.

It has been reported that the option to buy clause is around the €18 million mark.

The deal has been agreed and Werner has travelled to London to complete his medical before officially becoming a Tottenham player.

Adding a new forward in the January transfer window was seen as a necessity by Spurs given their lack of depth in attacking areas and Heung-min Son’s recent departure for the Asian Cup.

Furthermore, they beat Man Utd to Werner’s signature after Erik ten Hag’s side decided not to follow up their initial interest in the RB Leipzig star.

Now, Spurs could deny the Red Devils another key transfer target as they look to bolster their forward line in order to provide back-up to Rasmus Hojlund.

Serhou Guirassy to join Tottenham instead of Manchester United?

Serhou Guirassy is being chased by both Tottenham and Man Utd, just like Werner, following his electric start to the Bundesliga season.

The Stuttgart striker has 19 goals and two assists in just 16 appearances in all competitions this campaign, and that form has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

Fulham have also been linked in recent weeks, although Spurs and Man Utd may present more attractive financial offers to the Guinea international.

Guirassy, 27, could become the second Bundesliga forward to snub Man Utd in order to join Spurs this month following Werner’s move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That is because journalist Paul Brown recently told GiveMeSport: “I think there might be a lot of clubs coming in for him [Guirassy] and it'll be interesting to see whether he decides he fancies a move or not, but I certainly think that going to Spurs would interest him.

“He’s likely to get a lot of playing time there, they seem to be a club going places and it wouldn't surprise me if they sneaked into the Champions League again this season if they can get some players back fit and keep their momentum going.

“So I think they'd be quite an attractive proposition for someone like Guirassy, and I'm pretty sure he is on their list.”

Guirassy’s current contract at Stuttgart runs until 2026 after he joined the club on a permanent deal during the most recent summer transfer window.
