Tottenham are trying to hijack Barcelona's Lucas Bergvall deal, according to a report.

The Swedish youngster is one of Europe's most in-demand midfielders, having starred for Djurgardens in the 2023 season at just 17 years of age. The fact that he can be signed for less than €15 million makes Bergvall especially attractive, but interested clubs have thus far had to deal with a major stumbling block.

The teenager has his heart set on a move to Barcelona and the Blaugrana have, at last, begun actively working on a deal after previously being unable to pursue a move due to their financial difficulties.

This had given hope to Eintracht Frankfurt, with the Bundesliga side able to offer the midfielder an intriguing project and game-time guarantees, but Barcelona's recent activity knocked the Germans out of the race to sign Bergvall.

Last-minute hijack?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have been quickly advancing in the talks with Djurgadens and the 17-year-old is already in Catalunya for medical check-ups and face-to-face talks with the club hierarchy. A deal is thought to be close but not yet finalised and this could prove to be a problem.

GIVEMESPORT reports that Tottenham have declared their interest in hijacking the deal. Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge told the outlet: "The latest is that Spurs are interested. They are aware that Barcelona have been interested for a while, but I think Spurs realise that this is a player that is being watched by all the top teams."

"Spurs have declared their interest, as we've found out, over the last few days. There might be something on that over the next couple of days. That is one who would perhaps be looking towards the academy, but he is clearly extremely highly rated considering the calibre of clubs that have been watching him for a while."
