Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas are interested in signing Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri on loan after seeing a permanent deal turned down by Erik ten Hag’s side.

Hannibal, 20, made 41 appearances for Birmingham City last season, scoring once and providing six assists, but he was unable to seal another move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Besiktas wanted to sign the 26-capped Tunisia international on a permanent deal, but that proposal was rejected a few weeks ago. Now, they are back in for Hannibal and are pushing to sign the youngster on loan, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, cited by The Sun.

The transfer window in Turkey closes on 15 September, meaning Besiktas have just over 12 hours to complete a loan deal for Hannibal if they want him in their squad for the next few months.

If they are unable to complete a deal with Man Utd, then a January move could potentially be on the cards.

Borussia Dortmund also held interest in Hannibal earlier this summer, but reportedly had an initial proposal turned down by the Red Devils.

Hannibal is yet to feature for the Man Utd senior side this campaign, with his only two appearances coming for the U21 side in the Premier League 2 and for Tunisia against Egypt during the September international break.

Besiktas’ summer business

Besiktas have signed 10 players so far this summer, although they have only spent €17 million in total.

Ante Rebic, Eric Bailly, Daniel Amartey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all arrived on free transfers, while Milot Rashica has joined for €5.3m from Norwich and Arthur Masuaku has been acquired by €2m from West Ham.

Romain Saiss (€2.5m to Al-Sadd), Georges-Kevin N’koudou (free to Dhamk) and Nathan Redmond (free to Burnley) are Besiktas’ three most notable departures.

They are currently fourth in the Super Lig, having picked up seven points from their opening three matches.
