Moises Caicedo’s move to Liverpool has not yet been finalised and Chelsea are attempting to hijack the Reds’ deal to sign the Ecuador international from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liverpool lodged a €127 million (£110m) offer for Caicedo last night, which was accepted by Brighton shortly after, with the Seagulls adamant that they would sell their star midfielder to the highest bidder - Chelsea offered €116m (£100m) for context.

Caicedo is now travelling to Merseyside to undergo his medical at Liverpool, but Chelsea remain desperate to hijack Liverpool’s deal for the 21-year-old.

The Blues have spent the entire summer locked in negotiations with Brighton, only for Jurgen Klopp’s side to swoop in and seemingly seal a deal.

However, Chelsea have a secret weapon up their sleeve that could turn the tide and see Caicedo end up at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Secret Scout, “Tyler Adams move to Chelsea isn’t complete YET. There could be a possibility he may end up at Brighton IF Chelsea manage to sign Caicedo.”

This comes after news that the Leeds United midfielder was set to complete his medical at Chelsea today (11 August), according to Sky Sports, after the Blues activated his €23m (£20m) relegation release clause.

Chelsea had identified Adams as a useful addition to their first-team squad following the summer departures of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and a deal had looked all but confirmed.

However, the Blues may now look to use Adams as a makeweight in a deal to hijack Liverpool’s deal for Caicedo, even though the American has not yet signed for the club.

What has Klopp said?

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Chelsea, Klopp said, via Fabrizio Romano: “I got told I can confirm the Moisés Caicedo deal is agreed with the club. With the player, we will have to see.

“Medical today? I can’t tell you, I don’t know. We give it a go and the club have really stretched it to be honest.”

Brighton don't want Caicedo to join Chelsea

FootballTransfers understands that Brighton never wanted to sell Caicedo to Chelsea. They were talking with Liverpool the whole time and were waiting for the right moment to do the deal.

However, sources have told us that the Ecuador international does not want to join Liverpool and only wants to sign for Chelsea.
