Manchester United have had a £60 million bid for Mason Mount accepted by Chelsea, reports David Ornstein.

Mount had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool, before United emerged as the favourites to sign him weeks ago.

The Englishman then agreed personal terms with the Red Devils but negotiations between the two clubs remained ongoing.

Chelsea rejected two bids, totalling £50m and £55m, before agreeing to sell for £60m on Thursday (£55m guaranteed, plus £5m in add-ons).

The Blues initially wanted up to £70m but have since compromised, with the club looking to resolve the situation quickly.

Mount is not said to have wanted to leave Stamford Bridge but, with one year left on his deal and no sign of an extension, decided that a move to United was best for his career.

Mount to Man Utd

Mount will immediately strengthen United's midfield, likely replacing Christian Eriksen.

While Eriksen is a quality player, he lacks the energy and work rate that his new teammate will provide in abundance.

For this reason, Mount is much more suited to playing in a midfield three that already includes Bruno Fernandes.

To compensate for Fernandes' attacking focus, the third midfielder ideally needs to work tirelessly to support Casemiro out of possession.

But Mount is far more than just a hard-working player, with a keen eye for a goal and a pass in decisive areas.

He only registered five goal contributions in a difficult 2022-23 Premier League season, but 11 goals and 10 assists in the prior campaign was an outstanding achievement.
