Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz has many admirers at Real Madrid and a move is possible, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The summer clear-out at Stamford Bridge appears to be picking up steam. Incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino and the Chelsea higher-ups will trim down the bloated squad that their €600 million spending spree of this season has left them with in the next few months.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek appears to be on his way to Milan, while Romelu Lukaku could stay in Italy as well. Lukaku's current club Inter is reportedly trying to engineer a deal for Trevoh Chalobah. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also expected to depart this summer and the Blues are even considering offloading Kalidou Koulibaly after just one season.

There's plenty of business to be done, and a surprise name has cropped up in recent days as a potential player to be sold. Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that this is indeed a possibility.

Havertz to leave?

The player in question is Kai Havertz, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2020 for €80m after standout performances in the Bundesliga. The German has, however, not quite managed to live up to his hefty price tag.

In lieu of Chelsea having a proper number nine, Havertz has been converted into a makeshift striker, a position that doesn't seem to suit him too well. Nevertheless, his stock is still high and recent reports have linked him with Real Madrid, rumours that Romano has now confirmed.

"I'm told that it's true, Real Madrid really appreciate Kai Havertz," Romano said on his YouTube channel. "He is one of the names they mentioned in an internal meeting with Carlo Ancelotti and with people on the board who report to Florentino Perez, so it's true that they really appreciate Kai Havertz."

"They believe that Kai Havertz is the kind of creative player with skills that Real Madrid don't have on their current team...He can play in different positions: behind the striker, as a central striker in emergency situations and also on the wings."

"From what I'm told," he continued, "Chelsea are open to negotiating for Kai Havertz, so [he] is not an untouchable player at Chelsea."

"Chelsea want important money for their important player, so at the moment this is the position for Havertz: Chelsea are not closing the door, but they want important money."
