Manchester United and Brazil midfielder Fred has emerged as a shock transfer target for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Fred, 29, arrived at Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donestk in 2018, but has failed to leave a lasting impression at Man Utd during his time at the club. Furthermore, he has started just four Premier League games this season, with new boss Erik ten Hag preferring a double pivot of summer signings Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

This has led to rumours of an exit from the club, and PSG have now emerged as surprise candidates to sign him.

The French club signed Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler and Vitinha during the summer transfer window in a bid to bolster their midfield, but according to The Sun, they want to add Fred to that selection.

Christophe Galtier has mostly implemented a 3-4-3 system since arriving at the Parc des Princes, and reportedly wants to sign another midfielder despite the hub of summer activity in that position.

If Fred were to sign for PSG, then he would join international team-mates Neymar and Marquinhos at the club, which is something that could sway his mind.

How much will Fred cost?

Man Utd have reportedly revealed that there will accept offers in excess of £30 million for the Brazil international this January. Fred only has 18 months left on his current contract at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils are keen to recoup as much of the £47m they spent on Fred back in 2018.

Man Utd recently triggered a one-year extension option in Fred's deal to ensure he stays contract until 2024, as he was edging closer to a 2023 exit as a free agent. However, it's believed this was done in order to maximise any fee they might receive for the midfielder as they attempt to offload him.

Enzo Fernandez has emerged as a major transfer target for Man Utd, and they are now reportedly leading the race to sign the Argentine. His potential arrival would push Fred down the pecking order even further, so a January exit seems like the best case scenario for all involved.
