Frenkie de Jong is reportedly unhappy with his situation at Barcelona, having not started as many games as he would have hoped for the Blaugrana this season.

De Jong was the subject of transfer rumours throughout the summer, but a move for him never materialized and he ended up staying at the club – something he always wanted to do.

Now, with the situation changing once again, other clubs could be alerted to the matter and may be tempted to facilitate a move for the Dutchman.

So, which clubs could make a move for De Jong in the near future?

Manchester United

The obvious choice will be Manchester United, who spent 17 weeks in the summer chasing De Jong but couldn’t bring him over to Old Trafford.

De Jong was Erik ten Hag’s priority in the transfer window and he saw him as the ideal option to improve his midfield at Manchester United.

Should the opportunity arise, Ten Hag and Manchester United will be back in the market for him, and they may have a better chance of landing him this time around.

Chelsea

Chelsea, along with Manchester United, were the other club interested in buying De Jong this summer and were reportedly quite close to getting him.

They need to improve their midfield with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante’s futures still unclear and could go for De Jong in the coming transfer windows.

The Blues have been unafraid to splash the cash under Todd Boehly and could do so again in this scenario as they look to sign De Jong.

Juventus

According to Calciomercato, Juventus are the latest club set to enter the race for the Dutch midfielder and could be tempted for a move.

They feel De Jong is of the ideal profile they are looking to sign for the central midfield role and they could offer him what he wants – consistent first-team football.

The fee will be a bit of a stumbling block for them, as they may not be able to fork out the same amount as other contenders may be able to.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich were another club linked with the Dutchman over the transfer period and they may enter the race for him when the time comes around.

They’ve spent big in the summer, and already signed a few big ex-Ajax talents in the form of Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui and others.

De Jong would fit in well in that side, and playing at a club where he can challenge for Champions League honours could be a great opportunity for De Jong.
