Jose Mourinho confirms Fenerbahce exit talks

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he held talks to leave Fenerbahce in January, although he has denied rumours of a move to the Portugal national team.
The 62-year-old has been heavily linked with a Fenerbahce exit in recent weeks, after failing to guide them to the Turkish Super Lig title, but he has been forced to deny speculation that he has held discussions to become the new Portugal boss.
Recent reports claim that Mourinho has been in talks to replace Roberto Martinez as the Portugal head coach after the UEFA Nations League finals in June, however Mourinho has now poured cold water on these rumours.
He told reporters (as per talkSPORT): “Yes, I can deny that I had any meeting with the Portuguese Football Federation. I am a loyal person.”
Mourinho then admitted that he considered leaving Fenerbahce halfway through the 2024-25 campaign.
“The only time I had direct contact with a club I informed Fenerbahce,” the ex-Chelsea boss revealed. “It wasn't now, it was in January. I had a meeting with the [unnamed] club. I didn't accept the offer. But I informed my club even before the meeting.”

Jose Mourinho’s next club
Mourinho has previously admitted that he would like to return to England before the end of his managerial career, although a move back to the Premier League appears unlikely as things stand due to a lack of vacancies.
Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou are the two managers most heavily linked with a summer exit, but Mourinho has taken charge of both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the past and a return to either club seems almost impossible.
Meanwhile, Rangers have recently been tipped to appoint Mourinho amid their pursuit of a new manager, although Rob Edwards, Russell Martin, Davide Ancelotti and Steven Gerrard are also under consideration by the Scottish giants.
