Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal: Ornstein CONFIRMS plan after 'cooling off period'
Arsenal are reportedly set to resume talks with Sporting CP over a summer deal for Viktor Gyokeres after a “cooling off period” this week.
The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for over a month and Gyokeres is growing increasingly frustrated by the delay to his proposed move to Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Sweden international has already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium and he has even given up €2 million in wages in order to improve Arsenal’s offer to Sporting.
However, the two clubs are currently at an impasse, with Arsenal offering an initial fee of €65m, plus €15m in add-ons, while Sporting are demanding €70m up-front, with €10m in add-ons.
The Mirror report that Sporting opted to put talks on hold earlier this week due to the ongoing dispute between the two clubs. However, they have now ended this “cooling off period” and will restart fresh talks within the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now confirmed The Transfers Podcast's exclusive story that Gyokeres will not report back to Sporting for pre-season training, despite being required to, as he is desperate to join Arsenal.
Viktor Gyokeres to join Arsenal
As exclusively revealed by The Transfers Podcast, Gyokeres has informed Sporting president Frederico Varandas that he will never play for the club again as they have reneged on an agreement for him to depart for a fee of €60m, plus €10m in add-ons, this summer.
Reports in Portugal have claimed that Gyokeres’ proposed move to Arsenal could “collapse imminently,” but FootballTransfers understands that Arteta’s side remain confident of finalising a deal.
The 27-year-old has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, following his arrival from Coventry City in 2023, and he is prioritising a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite heavy interest from Manchester United.
