Chelsea take lead in SHOCK Sesko transfer
Chelsea could receive an intriguing proposition to win the race for Benjamin Sesko this summer, with the Blues potentially having the edge over rivals with their package to RB Leipzig.
Sesko is expected to leave Leipzig this summer and potentially move to the Premier League, although previous frontrunners Arsenal opted to pursue a deal for Viktor Gyokeres instead.
Leipzig’s demands of around €90 million led to Arsenal pulling out of negotiations, while The Transfers Podcast was told that personal terms with Sesko had also proven difficult due to the 22-year-old demanding a release clause in his contract.
Arsenal’s withdrawal has led to Sesko being back to square one in his quest to join a new club and TBR Football report that the Slovenian’s agents have reached out to Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd and Newcastle to assess their interest in a move.
All four clubs have held a long-standing interest in Sesko but Chelsea may hold the leverage in a move due to Leipzig holding an interest in Armando Broja as a replacement.
The Athletic state that Leipzig have expressed their interest in Sesko, while Stuttgart have also entered the race as they seek their own potential replacement for Nick Woltomade, who is wanted by Bayern Munich.
Sesko pursuit could depend on Nicolas Jackson future
Chelsea are not currently considering a move for a striker after bringing in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer but the situation could change if Nicolas Jackson leaves the club.
Interest has continued to build in Jackson, with the 24-year-old likely to see his gametime significantly reduce next season after already struggling to convince manager Enzo Maresca of his starting credentials.
Manchester United have renewed their interest in Jackson after FootballTransfers revealed their initial admiration of the striker in June, while Arsenal and Liverpool are also thought to be monitoring the situation.
However, Chelsea may still be open to a transfer for Sesko if Broja is able to be included in the deal and lower any financial package, with the Albanian among the players in club’s ‘bomb squad’ that the Blues are desperate to sell.
