Liverpool have NO CHANCE of Isak transfer even with record breaking offer
Liverpool will need to break the British transfer record for the second time this summer if they want to have a chance at signing Alexander Isak but even that may not be enough to lure their top target away from Newcastle.
The Premier League champions have ramped up their interest in Isak in the hopes of convincing the 25-year-old to push for a move to Anfield, with Newcastle adamant that their talismanic striker is not for sale at any price.
With Champions League football secured and Isak having three years remaining on his contract, Newcastle are in a strong position and have no incentive to cash in on their star man, even with their €80 million approach for another striker in Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle do not view Ekitike as a replacement for Isak but rather as a partner to play alongside him to help elevate Eddie Howe’s side – a position some may see as a bluff, although failed pursuits for Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer would say otherwise.
The Magpies are, instead, looking to offer Isak a new contract and they remain calm in the situation, taking comfort from the fact that their number 14 has always maintained his loyalty and professionalism despite constantly being linked with a move away from St James’ Park.
Of course, Newcastle aren’t ignorant to the thought that Isak may eventually see his future at a club with a greater financial and footballing pedigree but neither party has, so far, felt a need to entertain thoughts of a move away and it will take more than unsettling tactics for Liverpool to turn his head this summer.
Newcastle not looking to sell Isak to Premier League rival
Having won a trophy and finished in the top five last season, Newcastle are perhaps at their strongest level since their Saudi takeover in 2021 and Howe’s side have no desire to reverse their momentum by selling their best player to a Premier League rival, no matter how significant the fee and PSR flexibility would be.
Newcastle are thought to value Isak at £120 million (€138m) but that amount would not be enough for another Premier League rival to prise arguably the division’s best striker from a team with their own eventual title aspirations.
Liverpool would likely need to offer £150m (€173m) for Newcastle to even entertain the possibility of selling their best player in his prime to the Premier League champions and it is just as likely that the Magpies gamble on future interest from European sides like Barcelona or Real Madrid, even for a significantly cheaper amount.
While there is nothing to suggest Isak is even tempted by a move to Liverpool, Newcastle will not be motivated to succumb to any pressure from the player, agents or any interested sides, even if it means Liverpool turning to Ekitike as an alternative and snatching the Eintracht Frankfurt star from the Magpies’ clutches.
Indeed, Ekitike moving to Anfield may be the most likely outcome out of all this whole situation, with Newcastle having no plans to go back on their public stance of keeping their best players, meaning that Isak is set to continue playing in black and white for the indefinite future.
