Celtic receive huge Andy Robertson transfer update
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has insisted that he “needs” Andrew Robertson amid ongoing transfer talks with Tottenham Hotspur and interest from Celtic.
The Scotland international is into the final six months of his current contract at Anfield and Spurs are currently working on a surprise January deal as they look to bolster the defensive options available to Thomas Frank.
Robertson has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool following the arrival of Milos Kerkez last summer and the 31-year-old has already confirmed that he is yet to receive an official contract extension proposal from the club.
As a result, rumours of a Bosman exit this summer have intensified in recent weeks and Celtic are among the clubs keeping tabs on his situation ahead of a potential swoop following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
However, Tottenham are eager to beat the competition to Robertson’s signature by agreeing a transfer before the winter window slams shut on 2 February.
The north London outfit have already added Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher to their first-team squad so far this month and they are keen to rectify a poor start to the season by finalising a deal for Robertson.
Despite this, Slot has confirmed that he “needs” the Scotland star amid the current fixture schedule.
Arne Slot issues Andy Robertson transfer update
When asked about Robertson’s future after Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday evening, Slot told reporters: “I need all my players. I always knew that another 90 minutes for Milos Kerkez against an intense Bournemouth side was not a possibility so I already knew I had to bring Robertson in.
“But I had already made one substitution, so you only have two windows left so I brought him on at half-time to make sure Kerkez stays available for the rest of the season. I have to manage that. The last thing we need is another injury.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk added: “I speak to him [Robertson] everyday, he’s my vice captain. Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay. Whatever happens. We’ll see.”
