Rangers have announced the completion of their biggest transfer deal of the summer as Russell Martin’s squad continues to undergo a radical change.

The Ibrox side are still reeling from their Champions League humiliation at the hands of Club Brugge in midweek – a match in which seven of Martin’s signings started.

Rangers are now seeking to reduce their squad size and have sold Hamza Igamane to Lille in a deal made official on Friday.

The Gers have sold the striker to the French side in a €12 million deal – making the Morocco international one of Rangers’ five biggest sales ever.

Igamane leaves Glasgow under a cloud, however. The 22-year-old did not enter last weekend’s Scottish Premiership clash with St Mirren because he claimed to be injured. After undergoing a scan that showed he was not suffering a problem, he missed training on the eve of the Brugge clash, which Rangers lost 6-0.

“I'm happy to sign for a great club with a great sporting project,” he said upon joining his new team.

“Lille isn't a club like any other; it has a great history and has won many trophies. Every season, it plays in European competitions. I should add that Lille is a very beautiful city. I'm going to give my all on the pitch to help the team win and reach the highest level possible.”

Patience pays off for Lille

Lille are pleased to have signed the forward, who scored 16 times and generated three more assists for the Gers last season.

President Olivier Letang said: “He is a complete striker whom we have been following and talking with for many months.

“A versatile player with different and complementary characteristics to the attacking players we have in our squad, Hamza will bring a range of additional solutions to our coaching staff.

“He has performed well with his previous clubs and already has some experience. But above all, he still has significant potential to develop.

“It took some patience to reach this positive outcome, but the determination and trust between both parties has finally made it possible to achieve today's outcome and this signing that we wanted.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hamza and his entourage, as well as the Rangers management.”

Although Rangers initially quoted the Ligue 1 side a €20m price for Igamane, the North African only has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €9.2m, suggesting the Ibrox side are still getting a good deal.
