Celtic transfer verdict issued as DREAM target has 'heart set' on Rodgers reunion
Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy reportedly has his “heart set” on a move to Celtic as he targets a reunion with Brendan Rodgers.
The former England striker is currently a free agent after leaving Leicester in July and he is now “desperate” to complete a Bosman deal to Celtic, according to The Sun.
Vardy, 38, is also wanted by Brentford, West Ham United and Wrexham, while Serie A giants Napoli have even been linked with a sensational move as they look to sign a new centre forward following Romelu Lukaku’s injury.
Celtic's arch-rivals Rangers were interested in a deal earlier this summer, however rumours of an Ibrox switch have died down in recent weeks.
Vardy has reportedly been searching for a new club since his Leicester departure and he has now set his sights on joining Celtic as he looks to reunite with Rodgers - who coached him for four years at the King Power Stadium.
Celtic, for what it’s worth, are also interested in landing Vardy as they look to bolster their options in attack, and a deal could be finalised before the end of August.
Jamie Vardy to join Celtic?
Ex-Celtic midfielder Charlie Mulgrew believes that Vardy would be an excellent signing for his former club, despite the fact he is now 38 years old.
He told Go Radio (via the Daily Record): “See if Jamie Vardy comes in - I think he inherited him at Leicester, and he did well for him - I think he would be a real asset, especially in the Champions League.
“I know he is getting on a bit but has pace and counter attacking style. There is no doubt about it. They need wingers, strikers - if there is any area that Celtic have looked weaker it's at the top of the pitch, with that cutting edge.
“He would be welcome. He would allow [Daizen] Maeda to play out wide and allow [Adam] Idah to come in if Vardy isn't playing. Get another winger in, then all of a sudden Celtic start to look a lot stronger.”
If Vardy does complete a Bosman move to Celtic Park, he would become the club’s eighth summer signing, following the arrivals of Shin Yamada, Benjamin Nygren, Hayato Inamura, Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, Callum Osmand and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (loan).
