Kylian Mbappe will leave PSG in 2023 and is desperate to quit as early as the January transfer window, according to respected French journalist Daniel Riolo.

It has been widely reported in recent days that Mbappe is unhappy with PSG for breaking promises they made to him when he renewed his contract last summer.

One of these promises was that he would play in his preferred wide role in attack but instead he has been deployed as a number nine.

The 23-year-old posted a picture to Instagram with the caption ‘#pitvotgang’, insinuating his frustration at his role during PSG’s 0-0 draw against Reims.

Mbappe had earlier complained about PSG not playing him in the way the France national team do.

What did Mbappe say?

"Different things are asked of me here than at club level. I have a lot of freedom here," he said last month.

"The coach knows that there is a No.9 like Olivier [Giroud] who takes care of the defense and I can look for spaces, ask for balls. In Paris that doesn't happen, they ask me to play as a pivot, it's different.”

PSG coach Christophe Galtier refused to criticise Mbappe for his outbursts but Riolo reports that the attacker has made his mind up to leave in 2023. As early as January if possible following the World Cup in Qatar.

What did Riolo say?

"He is in a negative spirit to the point that he himself says he will leave PSG in January if there is an opening,” Riolo said.

“But in any case at the end of the season, it's over. He's fed up!"

Mbappe had seemed destined to join Real Madrid thispast summer but completed a dramatic turnaround by penning a three-year extension with PSG at the end of May.

Throughout 2021-22, it had been unanimously accepted that he would sign for Madrid on a Bosman transfer when his previous PSG contract expired.

Having rejected a €200 million bid from Real Madrid for Mbappe in the summer of 2021, the Frenchman was believed to have already agreed a free transfer move to the club he supported as a child.

This was reinforced by the fact that he rejected numerous offers of a PSG extension throughout the campaign.

But, in a shock twist, Mbappe decided to sign a new deal at PSG.

It was thought that the deal ran until 2025 but it has been reported recently that the contract is actually until 2024 instead.

The question now is whether Madrid will come back in for Mbappe or whether he will join another team – likely in the Premier League – instead.
