Real Madrid kit launch all but confirms Sergio Ramos’ summer exit

Sergio Ramos finally left Real Madrid this summer after 16 years at the club.

The World Cup winner enjoyed huge success in his time at Santiago Bernabeu, winning five La Liga titles and the Champions League on four occasions.

He is a legendary figure at the club, but he would eventually leave in fairly acrimonious circumstances.

With Ramos' contract set to expire in June, both the player and Real Madrid were locked in talks throughout the season over a renewal.

Ramos wanted a two-year deal, while the club were only willing to offer a one-year deal due to his age.

The Spaniard would eventually accept the one-year deal, only for Real Madrid to say his decision came too late, which led to his announced departure.

He had previously been linked with Manchester United but, according to reports from France, it is Paris Saint-Germain who are leading the race for his signature.

However, not everyone in the PSG dressing room is happy about his potential arrival, according to Le Parisien

What PSG players don't want Ramos?

Naturally, most of the negativity surrounding the club signing Ramos is to do with certain players worried about their playing time, namely Presnel Kimpembe.

Kimpembe is a favourite of the PSG fans due to the fact he came through the youth system, and not only has he stepped up to become a key starter for the club, particularly after the departure of Thiago Silva, but he is also a starter for France.

The 25-year-old started 26 matches in Ligue 1 last season, and he apparently believes he would become the third-choice central defender at the club should Ramos be brought in, with Marquinhos obviously number one.

Crucially, club captain Marquinhos is also not in favour of the move.

This is not with regards to worries over his own playing time or that of Kimpembe, but more to do with the overall transfer strategy of PSG.

Marquinhos is allegedly of the opinion that the acquisition of a 35-year-old central defender on exorbitant wages is not currently what the team needs.

What PSG players want Ramos?

It is no surprise that two of the players who would be keen to see Ramos sign for PSG are two of his former team-mates in Keylor Navas and Angel Di Maria.

Both the Costa Rican and the Argentine played with Ramos to a lot of success at Real Madrid and they both believe he would bring leadership and captain qualities to the squad in Paris.

There has been no confirmation as to what ex-Barcelona star Neymar would make of the deal.
