Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Real Madrid should receive ‘clarity’ on Vinicius Junior’s future soon after Brazil’s exit from the 2026 World Cup.

Vini Jr is in the final year of his contract with Madrid and the winger has so far seen negotiations stall over a new deal after failing to come to terms over an extension, which has led to suggestions that he may be sold this summer.

However, all parties are keen to resolve the issue and agree fresh terms, which Romano believes could happen now that Brazil’s World Cup is over following their last-16 loss to Norway on Sunday, with talks

“After the World Cup, there are going to be conversations and Real Madrid will talk with the agents of Vinícius Jr,” Romano said on YouTube. “There will be a new round of talks between Vinícius and Real Madrid to try to resolve, in one sense or another, the situation of Vinícius Jr this summer.

“Real Madrid want a solution as soon as possible—in or out. The president, Florentino Pérez, wants Vinícius Jr. to stay. Vinícius would also like to stay at Real Madrid, but it's a contract question, a financial question. It's about the salary, the length of the contract. So it's a negotiation now.

“It's not about the will of both parties; it's about reaching an agreement. And Real Madrid don't want to face the risk to arrive in 2027 with Vinícius still not signing a new contract and out of contract in 2027. So the conversations over Vinícius Jr. will restart quite soon with his agents to try to find a solution and to try to fix this case with Vinícius out of contract in 2027, out of the World Cup, and so now is going to be time to clarify his future.”

Haaland interested in Real Madrid move as Vini Jr talks planned

Romano also confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in Erling Haaland after comments from the player’s father hinting towards a move, however the Norwegian star is not expected to leave Manchester City this summer.

“Haaland to Real Madrid this summer? No,” Romano said. “But Haaland to Real Madrid one day? Who knows? Because Haaland is not excluding the possibility one day—again, not in the summer of 2026—to go to Real Madrid. So it's something that in the mind of Erling Haaland is considered as a possibility for the future.

“Again, I'm not talking about this summer. Again, Haaland is very happy at Man City. He's a crucial player for the City project, for City under Enzo Maresca, so the feeling is absolutely super positive between Haaland and City. But that's the story for this case."
