Karim Benzema won the Ballon d'Or in October after an incredible 12 months in which scored 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions as Real Madrid were crowned Spanish and European champions.

And yet he has five players who earn more than him at Real, with Eden Hazard - who has yet to play a minute in 11 Clasico's since his club record €146.1 million move from Chelsea in 2019 - bringing home the most pay in the Spanish capital.

Los Blancos are one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the history of football, crowned European champions a record 14 times.

Real previously adopted a 'Galactico' policy under president Florentino Perez, which involved attempting to sign the very best players in European football, no matter the price, and regardless if they'd suit the current coach's playing style or not.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, this transfer policy saw the likes of Ronaldo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane arrive at the Bernaceu, while Cristiano Ronaldo led Perez's second revolution after he returned for a second spell as president.

Real have since won three Champions Leagues in a row under Zidane's management, although now, under Carlo Ancelotti, they are increasingly scouting players from Brazil like Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo instead of having to pay top dollar for them later.

How much does every Real Madrid player earn?

Hazard is the best-paid player, despite arguably being Real's fourth-choice wide attacker now behind Vini Jr., Rodrygo and Federico Valverde. He has another year of his contract to run, but that is unlikely to be extended.

Los Blancos' talisman over the past few seasons has undoubtedly been Benzema. However, the Frenchman is remarkably only the sixth-highest paid player in the squad, taking home a reported €10.6m (£9m) per year.

David Alaba only signed for the club in the summer of 2021, but it is clear Real landed him from Bayern Munich on a free transfer with the promise of a bumper wage as only Hazard earns more than him.

Thibaut Courtois signed a new contract last August which saw him earn a pay rise, putting him among the top earners.

Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are still among the highest earners, too. But both are out of contract next summer.

Vinicius has been sensational over the past few seasons, but he's still yet to sign a new deal since joining the club, so he is the fifth-lowest earner in the squad.
