Mac Allister’s has two years left on his current deal and the midfielder revealed earlier this season that he was disappointed to have not been offered a renewal yet by Liverpool despite teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai being handed new contracts.

Liverpool are alleged to have suggested to Mac Allister that they are not in a position to offer him a new contract and speculation has continued to surround his future, with Real Madrid believed to be considering a move for the 27-year-old.

However, Liverpool announced Julian Ward as the club’s sporting director in September amid the arrival of new minority owners and, while there has still been no progress, Mac Allister believes the changes could influence his future at the club.

“The situation didn't change. But there's a new sporting director. There is a new ownership coming into the club,” Mac Allister told the Liverpool Echo. “So everything can happen and we will see. Whether it is this season or next season, we will see what happens.

“But right now I'm just enjoying my football, enjoying playing for this amazing club that is one of the best in the world. And we will see. We will see in the future what happens.”

Alexis Mac Allister: Real Madrid waiting in the wings to sign ‘sad’ Liverpool star

Mac Allister has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining from Brighton in 2023 and he has continued to star for Andoni Iraola after the Spanish coach’s arrival in the summer, featuring in every Premier League game so far.

Yet, eyebrows were raised in September when Mac Allister admitted he was ‘very, very sad’ at Liverpool stalling on a new deal, particularly having had opportunities to leave the club in the summer.

Real Madrid have a long-standing interest in Mac Allister and there have been suggestions that they could look to move for the Argentine international on a free transfer in 2028, or on a cut-price deal next summer.

Liverpool are understood to be willing to wait to offer Mac Allister a new contract, with the club eyeing a revamp to their midfield by targeting stars such as Lamine Camara, according to recent reports.
