England full-back Kieran Trippier is said to be on Manchester United’s radar as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Telegraph have reported that the Red Devils are interested in Atletico Madrid’s right-back, who has been in Spain since his move from Tottenham in 2019.

Other than Wan-Bissaka, the only option at right-back for Solskjaer is Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and the Dutchman hasn’t kicked on since his breakthrough season on loan at Crystal Palace.

This has meant that Wan-Bissaka has started all but two of United’s games this season, and he needs a rest.

  • Trippier would provide Solskjaer with a completely different option to Wan-Bissaka, providing far more threat in the final third.

The Atleti man has already provided three assists so far this campaign, just one less than Wan-Bissaka managed in the whole of 2019-20, and could help make up for the lack of an out-and-out right winger in United’s squad.

Mundo Deportivo have said, however, that Trippier is “untouchable” and that Atleti simply won’t let him leave.

Having played every league minute so far this season, Trippier would no doubt want to stay at the title favourites in Spain, rather than fight for a starting berth in a top-four challenger in England.

Diego Simeone’s side currently sit top of the league and, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona faltering, Trippier has every chance of picking up his first major trophy; he surely won’t want to leave.
