Man Utd group take Deadline Day action amid takeover saga

Manchester United fans are set to gather outside Old Trafford tonight to protest the ownership of the Glazers.

The American family have held a stake in the club for 18 years and last November they effectively put it up for sale.

But no takeover has been forthcoming, despite rounds of talks with a number of parties. The ordeal has hampered Man Utd’s window, with Ten Hag expecting more money than he received.

A report from Henry Winter, Times reporter, said that as a result, a fan group called 1958 have organised a protest against the regime.

It comes after Sky Sports reported that Sheikh Jassim still wants to buy the club and his £5bn offer for the club remains on the table.

But those close to his side believe the takeover has stalled, believing that the Glazer family do not want to sell their enterprise.

So far, the Qatari group have made five bids to buy Man Utd - with the final offer being for 100 per cent of the club in a debt-free package.

There were reports that he was closing in on a deal but it was then reported that it wasn’t the case and his bid remains waiting to be accepted.

The trouble is that the longer that the saga is drawn out, the more expenses it costs the suitors, who have hired lawyers and bankers to help with the process.

Man Utd have been able to spend what they have earned this window, with the club bringing in Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund.

But they have been unable to ship some of their unwanted players off, meaning they are having to look to the loan market for options.
