Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Enzo Fernandez truth, Guimaraes to Man Utd, Lewandowski update
Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Enzo Fernandez, Bruno Guimaraes and Robert Lewandowski.
Chelsea’s difficult moment and support for Liam Rosenior
Chelsea suffered a 3-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday evening, but Romano has confirmed that a managerial change is not yet on the cards.
Speaking in his latest YouTube video, the transfer reporter said: “It is a difficult moment for Chelsea, with four consecutive defeats for the first time since 1993. It is a really complicated situation, especially after losing 3-0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain and then 3-0 away to Everton. This is clearly not the best moment for the club.
“At the same time, I continue to receive many questions about Liam Rosenior, and my understanding remains the same as in recent days following the PSG match. At the moment, there is no indication from Chelsea of any imminent managerial change or strong decision.
“Of course, the club cannot be satisfied with the current situation, but they are also taking into account that Rosenior arrived midway through the season without pre-season preparation, and this is not a squad built specifically for him.
“Chelsea still have the objective of qualifying for the Champions League next season, and there is a long way to go. The final two months of the campaign will be crucial. For now, the club continues to support Rosenior, who has also spoken publicly about ongoing meetings, internal discussions, and alignment with the club regarding plans for the summer transfer window. The manager maintains full confidence from the club at this stage.”
Enzo Fernandez contract talks
In addition to Rosenior, Enzo Fernandez has also been heavily linked with a Chelsea exit and he is yet to agree a new contract with the club.
“When speaking about Enzo Fernandez, Rosenior confirmed that he has held discussions with the player regarding his future, and that he does not feel Fernandez or any other player is pushing to leave the club,” Romano clarified.
“What I can tell you is that there have been conversations between Chelsea and Fernandez over a potential new contract with improved terms. However, as of now, no agreement has been reached. We will see whether this changes in the coming months, but if no deal is agreed before the summer transfer window, Fernandez could consider proposals.
“It is important to remember that Fernandez is under contract until 2032, with a very strong salary package, and Chelsea invested significant money to sign him from Benfica. This means the club remains in full control of the situation. Internally, Chelsea and the manager still view him as a key player, both on and off the pitch - a leader and a winner.
“There is also an understanding that his recent comments were influenced by disappointment, as he is a player who wants to win and compete at the highest level. For now, the contract situation will be the crucial factor in determining his future.”
Romano added: “I continue to receive questions about PSG and their interest in Fernandez, but my understanding is that PSG are very happy with their current midfield options, especially after adding new players who are already contributing.
“As things stand, I am not aware of PSG working on a deal for Fernandez or preparing any bid. Despite ongoing rumours, PSG are not actively pursuing the player at this stage.”
Bruno Guimaraes to Man Utd?
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes in recent weeks, and Romano has confirmed that he is admired by the Red Devils hierarchy.
The transfer expert revealed: “There have been fresh reports regarding Bruno Guimaraes and Man Utd, including claims of meetings with his agents. I can confirm that a meeting did take place in recent weeks, although not recently, between the player’s representatives and Man Utd.
“The club maintains a strong relationship with the agency, which represents several top players. Meetings of this kind are completely normal at this level. However, there is still a significant gap between holding discussions and reaching an agreement or completing a transfer.
“Guimaraes is appreciated by Man Utd, but he is not the only name on their list. Other midfielders, including Sandro Tonali and additional targets, are also being considered. The club has not yet made a final decision on which player they want to pursue.
“For Newcastle, Guimaraes remains a crucial player, and the same applies to Tonali. Newcastle are not expected to make negotiations easy for any interested club, especially when it comes to two key players in the same position.”
Andre Onana expected to leave Man Utd
Andre Onana has started every single Super Lig fixture for Trabzonspor so far this season, but he will be sold by Man Utd this summer, as per Romano.
"Regarding Andre Onana, there has been speculation in recent months about his future. At present, the expectation is that Man Utd will look for a different solution in the summer rather than reintegrating him as their first-choice goalkeeper,” Romano confirmed.
“There have been rumours about a possible return to Inter Milan, but Inter are currently focused on other goalkeeping options and are not working on a move for Onana. The intention from both sides is to find a new club, whether that involves his current temporary situation or another opportunity in Europe.
“Man Utd are expected to explore ways to generate funds through player sales, and Onana is among the players whose future will be addressed alongside others already discussed in recent weeks.”
Robert Lewandowski future
Finally, Romano has provided a major update on the future of Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who is currently set to become a free agent in July.
“There have been many reports regarding Robert Lewandowski and the possibility of extending his stay at Barcelona,” Romano said. “The situation involves his agent, Pini Zahavi, who also represents Hansi Flick and has an excellent relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
“During recent meetings related to Flick’s contract, which is expected to be extended, there were also discussions about Lewandowski’s future. Barcelona are considering the possibility of offering him one more season, but no final decision has been made and nothing has been agreed.
“At the same time, Lewandowski and his camp are evaluating multiple options. These include staying at Barcelona, remaining in European football with other clubs, moving to Saudi Arabia where there has been interest for several years, or exploring opportunities in Major League Soccer.
“The final decision will rest with Lewandowski, as his representatives continue to present him with all available options before he determines the next step in his career.”
