Kylian Mbappe stole the show for France yet again, delivering on the biggest stage and showcasing what he’s capable of to the likes of Real Madrid, in amongst all the drama.

Mbappe netted twice to give France a 2-1 win over Denmark, making them the first side to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup and making the Paris Saint-Germain forward the tournament’s joint-top scorer.

Much has been made about Mbappe since he performed a late U-turn in the summer to turn down a move to Real in order to sign a new contract at PSG.

The two-year extension made Mbappe one of the highest paid athletes of all-time but he has been a frustrated figure this season, with reports claiming he already wants to leave PSG again.

Mbappe has scored 19 goals in 20 games for PSG this season but is said to be annoyed at PSG breaking a number of promises to him and Real have been linked with another attempt to sign him next year.

The Spanish side are believed to be uncertain at going back in for a player who humiliated them in the summer, but Mbappe’s consistent performances for club and country will remind Real what headlines he can make for the right reasons instead of the wrong ones.

Mbappe aiming to negate Haaland hype

Mbappe’s strikes against Denmark took him to 31 goals for France, making him the country’s eight-highest scorer, taking him past legends Jean-Pierre Papin and Just Fontaine.

At just 23 years old, Mbappe has already been at the heart of more successes in his short career than most ever achieve and he still has plenty of time to go.

While much has been made of his attitude and character off the pitch, Mbappe’s stature continues to grow and it is surely only a matter of time before he wins a Ballon d’Or and secures his place as the greatest player on earth.

Real have also been linked with Erling Haaland, with the Manchester City striker likely to be a long-term rival for Mbappe for both individual accolades and a potential move to Madrid.

Although Real could still not go wrong by opting to move for Haaland instead of Mbappe, the Frenchman’s World Cup pedigree should be enough for the Spaniards to ignore the drama and avoid missing the opportunity of a lifetime by bringing in a global superstar.
