It’s no secret that Real Madrid are seeking to make a big transfer statement this summer.

Los Blancos have been rather quiet on the transfer front in recent years and have moved away from their template of signing a big name every summer.

Indeed, their last ‘big’ splash was signing Eden Hazard in 2019. Before that, it was James Rodriguez in the aftermath of the 2014 World Cup.

This summer’s primary target appears to be one of either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. However, in order to fund the marquee move, they will need to shift on many of their current squad and fringe players, which includes the likes of Gareth Bale, Isco, Luka Jovic and current Arsenal loanee Martin Odegaard.

The Times is reporting that the Spanish giants are considering selling Odegaard at the end of season, after the Norwegian has spent numerous seasons on loan.

Real could prioritise Haaland, especially if Borussia Dortmund fail to make it into the Champions League for next season.

Odegaard joined Arsenal in the January window on loan until the end of the season.

The attacking midfielder has impressed since arriving in north London, starting five of their last nine league games.

He’s also featured in the Europa League too, starting in three of Arsenal’s four knockout games.

So far, the Norwegian has scored twice since joining the club.

The Times speculate that Real Madrid value Odegaard, who has two years left on his contract, at around £35m.

However, for Arsenal to sign him on a permanent basis, they would also need to move some players on, with Alexander Lacazette top of the pile.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta recently discussed Odegaard’s future with the club.

“I speak with him every day,” said Arteta during his pre-game press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game against Liverpool.

“I see his face, his body language and he seems really happy right now here.

“Our contract with him is until the end of the season. What we have to do is try to make him perform, develop and be as happy as he can be.”

If Odegaard is, indeed, as happy at Arsenal as he appears, it could be a happy arrangement for Haaland, Real Madrid and the Gunners.
