Mohamed Salah’s prospects of a summer move to hook up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami have been discussed at length by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with the Anfield club having given their blessing for the Egypt international star to depart on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old has been widely expected to complete a move to the Saudi Pro League, where he could be offered life-changing money, yet the tantalising prospect of hooking up with Messi in MLS is another possibility that has been rumoured for the Premier League legend.

Mo Salah to Inter Miami: Romano’s latest update

Romano claims that while there has been a lot of ‘noise’ about the possibility of Salah moving to Inter Miami, David Beckham’s MLS franchise have not opened any formal talks with the superstar.

“There’s been a lot of noise in England about Mohamed Salah possibly joining Leo Messi,” Romano told his YouTube channel.

“Especially after Inter Miami’s big announcement - the new Leo Messi Stand at their stadium, which is unbelievable. Imagine Messi playing in a ground with a stand named after him!

“But guys, let me clarify this very clearly: Inter Miami are not in negotiations to sign Mo Salah.

“Despite reports, despite rumours everywhere, it’s not true. Salah has not opened talks with Inter Miami.

“What’s true is that Salah will leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of the season - technically, his contract runs until 2027, but Liverpool will let him go for zero fee, as part of the mutual decision to part ways.

“So now Salah’s camp is free to speak to any club. Expect many stories - but as of today, no agreement with anyone.

“The Saudi Pro League, of course, still dream of him. They’ve been trying for two years, and this time they finally have a real shot. So keep an eye on this - big moves will come, but not from Inter Miami yet.”

Inter Miami’s Designated Player problem

Inter Miami face a roadblock in terms of the number of Designated Players (DP) they can have on their roster.

This mechanism is designed to retain a competitive balance in MLS, preventing one big-spending club from dominating the competition by snapping up a team of superstars.

Each franchise is allowed three DPs, and these spots at Inter Miami are already filled.

The Florida club boasts Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and German Berterame filling these slots.

While 27-year-old Mexico international Berterame appears the most expendable of this trio, he only signed a new contract with the Miami side on 30 January, making it highly unlikely that he will be sold.

Salah, therefore, looks very unlikely to join Messi at Inter Miami in the summer.
