Barcelona midfielder Pedri has made surprising comments about Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe ahead of El Clasico on Sunday.

Fresh from impressing in Barca’s 4-2 Champions League loss against PSG, Pedri says Mbappe can score five if he wants in Sunday’s big showdown at Camp Nou, just so long as the Blaugrana come out on top.

The France international has a remarkable record against Barca, having scored 12 times in ten appearances over the course of his career, but the Catalans’ midfielder is only worried about the result of the match.

Pedri was asked by RMC if he would accept a repeat of the May 2025 Clasico, in which Mbappe scored a hat-trick but Barcelona won 4-3:

“Of course! Yes, yes. He can score four or five goals, as long as we win, I’ll sign up for that without hesitation and I’ll be happy.

“El Clasico is a matter of life or death, because we can pick up points that are crucial in La Liga.

“It's a Clasico, it's one of the greatest things in football. The whole team loves these matches. It will be a difficult game; I think both teams know exactly what they have to do. We'll have to give everything for the full 90 minutes, no matter what, from start to finish.”

‘Anyone who doesn’t want to see it is blind’

Pedri also praised Mbappe’s contribution over the last year, which has made him a Ballon d’Or candidate, though the Barcelona star believes Lamine Yamal is the more deserving winner.

“You're right to say that Mbappe scores a lot of goals, but he hasn't had the luck to win any titles,” Pedri said.

“That doesn't mean Kylian Mbappe isn't the player he is: he's one of the best players in the world, and he proves it constantly. Anyone who doesn't want to see it is blind, isn't he?

“He's an exceptional and very dangerous player. I think that ultimately, titles also depend on the team's context and team-mates. So it doesn't mean he had a bad season, or a less good season than other players. I think he had an exceptional season.

“But as I said, I hope Lamine wins the Ballon d'Or.”
