Arsenal handed chance to sell €52m signing - but there’s a catch

Napoli are interested in Gabriel Jesus but they need to offload players first before making a move for the Arsenal striker, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport understands the Serie A side have made Jesus their top target as they look to bolster their forward line this summer.

The same outlet claims Napoli are trying to raise the funds required to sign Jesus by selling Romelu Lukaku and Noa Lang.

Lukaku is reportedly close to joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce, while Ajax are believed to have identified Lang as a replacement for Mika Godts.

Highly-rated winger Godts, 21, is expected to seal a big-money move to Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.

BBC Sport claims Arsenal are open to selling Jesus this summer, provided an offer arrives which they deem to be suitable.

The 29-year-old joined the Gunners from Manchester City for €52million (£45m) in 2022, signing a long-term contract at the club.

Jesus has recorded 32 goals and 22 assists in 123 appearances for Arsenal, helping the club win their first Premier League title for 22 years last season.

However, the Brazil international is currently behind Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz in the Arsenal pecking order.

Mikel Arteta’s side are also scouring the market for a new forward, having made attempts to sign Vinicius Junior and Morgan Rogers this summer.

Various sources understand Vinicius is set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid, however, while Rogers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for €136m (£117m) in July.

BBC Sport understands Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Julian Alvarez but Atletico Madrid insist the striker will not be sold this summer.

And the Athletic claims the north London club also hold an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain attacker Bradley Barcola, who is valued at €170m (£145m).

Arsenal have so far signed Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

Defender Piero Hincapie has also joined Arsenal after his loan move was turned into a permanent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

When asked if fans could expect more signings after Sunday’s 3-2 pre-season loss to Borussia Dortmund, manager Arteta said: “Well, that's what we're trying to do. If we have the right player in the market to make us much better.”
