Transfer Rumours: Man Utd agree Youri Tielemans deal as Arsenal twist revealed
FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 14 July, including the latest updates on Youri Tielemans and Bruno Guimaraes.
Man Utd agree Youri Tielemans deal
Manchester United are on the verge of signing Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans after agreeing to trigger his €41 million release clause.
Ederson's proposed transfer to Old Trafford is now off, and the club are instead set to sign Tielemans, as first called by David Ornstein.
Tielemans, who has two years remaining on his current contract at Aston Villa, reportedly has several suitors across Europe, but he favours a move to Man Utd and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a full agreement is in place for him to move to Old Trafford for €41m (£35m).
Aston Villa had no intention of allowing the 29-year-old to depart this summer, but their hand was forced due to a release clause included in his contract and the Belgian is expected to be formally announced as a Man Utd player within the next week.
Bruno Guimaraes twist
The strange Bruno Guimaraes transfer saga has taken a fresh twist amid Arsenal's ongoing pursuit of the Newcastle midfielder.
The Brazil international has informed the Magpies of his desire to pursue a move to the reigning Premier League champions, but The Telegraph claim that Arsenal have been "misled" by intermediaries during discussions over a potential deal.
It was asserted that these intermediaries implied that Guimaraes could be signed for as little as £50 million (€59m), with this number alleged to have emerged during a conversation with former co-owner Amanda Staveley.
However, Staveley categorically denies that such a conversation ever took place, and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, dismissed the report as "utter nonsense" on X. Meanwhile, Newcastle insist that they would only consider a sale if offered a fee in excess of €100m.
Chelsea to launch new Pep Chavarria bid
Chelsea are ready to submit a new offer worth €25 million for Rayo Vallecano defender Pep Chavarria, according to Marca.
The 28-year-old has been identified as a key target by the Chelsea hierarchy, amid their pursuit of a new left-back, and they are set to lodge an improved bid for his services in an attempt to convince Rayo Vallecano to sell.
Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with a desire to reach a resolution, and it’s understood that Chavarria is eager to link up with his compatriot Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Marca claim that Chavarria has a “firm agreement” in place with Chelsea and he is reportedly hopeful that a transfer fee will be agreed in order for him to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.
Barcelona open to Ferran Torres sale
Paris Saint-Germain are in talks to sign Ferran Torres this summer and Barcelona are open to a sale in order to avoid making an additional payment to Manchester City.
According to The Athletic, when the Catalans signed Torres from City, a clause was included in the deal that entitles the Premier League club to a bonus payment in the event of the forward signing a new contract with Barcelona.
So, if Barca agree terms with Torres on an extension, they would have to pay City a further €8m for a deal that has already cost them €65m.
Naturally, they are trying to avoid this by selling Torres and PSG are currently the frontrunners to secure his signature. However, it is worth noting that sources at Barcelona and those close to the player insist that no final decision has been made.
Aston Villa to sign Johan Manzambi
Aston Villa have reached a full agreement to sign Freiburg attacking midfielder Johan Manzambi after hijacking Newcastle United’s deal for the Switzerland international.
Manzambi had looked set to join Newcastle this summer, with Eddie Howe’s side desperate to bolster their midfield roster following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, and a deal was in place for him to move to St James’ Park.
However, the transfer was hijacked by Aston Villa, as confirmed by David Ornstein, and the Midlands outfit have now struck a full agreement to purchase the Switzerland star.
That is according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Johan Manzambi to Aston Villa, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for fee slightly in excess of €60m as Freiburg accept the proposal.
“Verbal agreement also with Manzambi and his agency over personal terms, long term deal in place. Aston Villa completed the hijack.”
