NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani aims dig at Man City over guilty verdict
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has aimed a sly dig at Manchester City after the club was found guilty of 114 financial breaches by the Premier League.
The charges against City include submitting misleading financial records concerning purportedly fictitious sponsorship agreements, withholding complete information about payments to managers and players, violating financial fair-play regulations, and failing to fully assist the Premier League’s investigation.
City have repeatedly rejected the accusations, maintaining that they possess evidence to defend themselves, and have challenged the guilty verdict on appeal.
On Sunday, they played their first match after being found guilty and put the noise to one side to comfortably defeat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield.
While holding a press conference to announce an economic development plan for the city, Mamdani took a question from a reporter who is a Liverpool supporter.

Before moving on to an answer to the question, he replied:
“How’s it going? How are you as a Liverpool fan right now? You got beat by a team that shouldn’t be in the league, but anyway…”
Punishments for Man City could include a major points deduction, a transfer ban and a significant fine and there are many supporters than want them thrown out the Premier League completely.
Mamdani is an Arsenal fan and it was the Gunners that beat City to the title last season - their first league championship win in over two decades.

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani supports Arsenal
Yes, Mamdani is indeed a Gooner. Born Uganda, he moved with his family to New York at the age of seven, and it was thereafter that he began watching soccer and Arsene Wenger's Arsenal in particular.
“My uncle is an Arsenal fan,” Mamdani told the New York Times.
“He introduced me. Wenger was one of the first managers to really bring African players into the EPL. I grew up with Kolo Toure, [Nwankwo] Kanu, Alex Song, Lauren and Emmanuel Eboue.
"I had the Invincibles as magnets on my fridge. I loved David Seaman, Sylvain Wiltord, all these guys. I’ve gone to a few Arsenal games, many with my uncle. It really has been a big part of my life and my identity.”
