Chelsea have already signed their Alejandro Garnacho replacement
Alejandro Garnacho is set to leave Chelsea after just one season at the club, with Xabi Alonso’s side eager to finalise a permanent sale before the end of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge from Manchester United for a fee of €46.2 million last summer, but he scored just one Premier League goal during his debut campaign in west London and both parties have agreed that an immediate sale is the best option.
Garnacho failed to report to Chelsea’s Cobham training facility for the start of pre-season last week and it has been widely reported that an exit is expected to be finalised before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
Chelsea reportedly value Garnacho at €50m and the Blues have ruled out a loan move as they look to shift the Argentina winger on a permanent deal in order to fund their summer business.
The west London giants have earmarked Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix as one of their priority transfer targets for this summer, while they are also eager to secure a deal for Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria after sanctioning the sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.
A new left winger may also be pursued, although Chelsea have already signed their replacement for Garnacho, and it therefore isn’t at the top of their to-do list.
Geovany Quenda is Chelsea’s replacement for Alejandro Garnacho
Chelsea agreed a deal for Geovany Quenda last March and he has now finally joined his new team-mates ahead of the 2026-27 campaign after a €50m move from Sporting CP.
The Portugal U21 international missed five months of last season due to a foot injury, but he is back to full fitness and there are high hopes that he will develop into an integral player at Stamford Bridge during his debut campaign at the club.
A left-footed winger capable of playing on either flank, Quenda is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe and although his reputation has dipped due to an injury-hit 2025-26 season, Chelsea have full belief in his ability.
Chelsea are still interested in adding a versatile attacker to Alonso’s first-team squad, with Morgan Rogers their top target, but Quenda is likely to directly replace Garnacho next season and compete with Jamie Gittens for a starting berth on the left flank if a back-four system is favoured.
However, if Alonso decides to revert to a 3-4-3 formation, Quenda could be used as a wing-back after excelling in this role under Ruben Amorim at Sporting. Either way, Chelsea have already replaced Garnacho and this is undoubtedly a key reason why the Argentina forward is set to leave on a permanent deal this summer.
