Arsenal 'expected' to complete Morgan Rogers transfer
Arsenal are reportedly expected to complete the signing of Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window amid advanced talks over a deal for the England star.
The 23-year-old has been earmarked as Mikel Arteta’s priority transfer target for this summer, and the Gunners hierarchy are currently working on a deal to bring him to north London ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, as confirmed by FootballTransfers.
Rogers is viewed as a versatile attacker capable of providing depth across multiple forward positions, most notably No.10 and left wing, and if a deal is finalised he would likely compete with current England team-mate Eberechi Eze for a prominent role at the Emirates Stadium.
Sources have informed FootballTransfers that Rogers is only interested in joining Arsenal or Bayern Munich this summer, and there is confidence that he will complete a move to the Gunners before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
The England international, who has featured in both of his country’s opening two matches at the 2026 World Cup, scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 37 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa last term, while he was named the Europa League Player of the Season after helping Unai Emery’s side to eventual victory.
Chelsea are also keeping close tabs on Rogers as they look to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer, but their lack of Champions League football could prove pivotal and Arsenal are currently the firm frontrunners in the race to secure the 23-year-old’s signature.
It’s understood that while a deal hasn’t yet been agreed, Rogers is keen on completing a move to north London and talks are expected to advance over the next month.
Report: Arsenal expected to sign Morgan Rogers
While Aston Villa are understandably reluctant to sell Rogers unless a significant offer is received, they are under financial pressure to accept a transfer and Arsenal have therefore been widely tipped to finalise a deal shortly.
This has been confirmed by transfer expert Ben Jacobs, who told Arsenal podcast Latte Firm: “I do expect Arsenal to sign Morgan Rogers. He is Arsenal’s leading target for left-wing and/or #10. My information is that Rogers has zero preference as to whether he’s signed as a left-winger or a #10.”
“Arsenal are expected to bid & this could move quickly. Aston Villa, even with Champions League football, are looking for a major sale to balance their books.”
“When Rogers extended last year, there was an understanding that he could leave this summer for a fee of £80m as a starting point. It’s not a release clause or gentleman’s understanding, but Villa had said they will not unduly stand in his way.”
“I’m still told engagement will start at £80m, that’s not to say it’ll be the number that secures a transfer, but that is the beginning to start a conversation with Aston Villa. I think there’s a very strong chance this deal happens.”
