Man Utd Transfer News Today: First signing of summer window confirmed
All the latest Man Utd transfer news in one place, including updates on Samuel Dahl, Marcus Rashford and Khephren Thuram.
Man Utd scout Benfica defender
Dahl has been a solid performer for Benfica since joining the Lisbon side for €9m last summer, contributing a couple of goals and assists from his left-back position. Naturally, his form has put him back on the radar of Europe's biggest clubs.
Man Utd, who were already keeping an eye on him when he broke through in Sweden, have reignited their interest in the 23-year-old, according to Record. A potential summer bid can't be ruled out.
The Swede has been watched in the flesh on more than 10 occasions this season, and the feedback from Man Utd scouts has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. As a result, it is posited that Man Utd could make an offer for him.
Wage bill slash expected in summer
Manchester United are preparing to slash their wage bill by €70 million over the summer to make space for a raft of new signings. The Telegraph reports that United are ready to axe players whose wages cost the club close to €1.4m per week (£1.2m).
The five players that Man Utd are planning on axing this summer are: Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana.
Although all these stars with the notable exception of Casemiro are away from the club on loan this season, United are still paying a portion of their wages.
Critically, if United qualify for the Champions League next season, a “majority” of the players will be in line for a pay rise of 25% next term, adding extra pressure on the wage bill. Hence, offloading these big-earning fringe players is critical.
Fabrizio Romano updates on Rashford truth
One report in Spain even suggested that the clause expired on 31 March, and while Romano has dismissed this claim, the transfer insider did admit that there is no guarantee that Rashford will remain at Barcelona next season.
“The report saying the €30 million buy option from Manchester United to Barcelona expired yesterday, at the end of March, is not what my sources are saying,” he told his YouTube channel.
“Sources at both clubs suggest that the €30 million option is still valid until the end of the current season. So if Barcelona want to pay that amount tomorrow, they can still sign Marcus Rashford.”
Man Utd make contact over Thuram
Thuram made the move to Juventus last summer in a €20.6 million switch from Nice and has since become a regular in the Serie A giants’ midfield.
With the Turin side open to selling the 25-year-old after just one season in Italy, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that both Man Utd and Liverpool are actively exploring a deal.
Thuram’s future at Juventus is up in the air, despite a strong performance in Serie A this season. Man Utd and Liverpool have both been in touch with the Serie A club to sound him out over a potential move. Nothing has yet been decided.
First Man Utd signing of the summer revealed
Manchester United’s first signing of the summer has been confirmed by the Manchester Evening News, with an initial deal agreed for teenage wonderkid Cristian Orozco.
United reached a preliminary agreement with the 17-year-old Colombian’s current club, Fortaleza CEIF, to secure his services. However, the deal cannot be finalized yet as Orozco has to wait until he turns 18 to head to Old Trafford.
A fee of around £750,000 (€1 million) has been agreed and Orozco is expected to feature for the club’s youth team first.
