Man Utd go all out for Anderson: Eight exits planned to sign Nottingham Forest star
Manchester United will build their summer transfer plans around an ambitious bid to beat Manchester City to the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
Despite Forest’s Premier League struggles this season, Anderson has been earmarked as a potential €100 million arrival in Manchester, where both United and City are desperate to land the England man.
Pep Guardiola’s side seemed to be in the ascendancy to complete a deal, yet the Red Devils are ready to pull out all the stops to beat their neighbours to the signature of the 23-year-old, according to The Sun.
Man Utd prepare eight exits
Man Utd are so eager to sign Anderson that they are ready to allow eight players to leave in order to fund a deal for the star.
It is claimed that the following five players will be sold to help raise funds for a deal:
- Manuel Ugarte
- Joshua Zirkzee
- Andre Onana
- Rasmus Hojlund
- Marcus Rashford
On top of these players being sold, United will free up their wage bill with three players released at the end of their contracts:
- Casemiro
- Jadon Sancho
- Tyrell Malacia
How does Anderson fit into Man Utd’s summer transfer plans?
Anderson has been made the centrepiece of Man Utd’s summer transfer campaign, with the Old Trafford side ready to pull out all the stops to sign him from Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils do have numerous other targets in the heart of the midfield, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali. Anderson stands out above these, though.
United do not have the luxury of endless money, and that will dictate how much resource they can put into this transfer battle.
The squad needs strengthening in other areas, with a wide attacker, a left-sided defender and possibly a centre-back and second central midfield option all on the shopping list. Spending all their funds on Anderson, then, is not possible, even if he is the dream target.
Analysis conducted by FootballTransfers, meanwhile, has shown that Tonali would make Man Utd’s best signing if they are chasing a like-for-like Casemiro replacement.
